When you travel with GVB, you use your personal or paper public transport chip card, barcode or Debit or Credit card to check in and out. This allow us to settle the costs for your journey.
Why does GVB use your personal data?
GVB processes your personal data for:
the implementation of the travel agreement with you (among other things, the financial settlement of trips made with a travel balance).
the implementation of the product agreement with you when you load a GVB travel product on your public transport chip card (for example, issuing a discount if you travel with an eligible product or sending you an invoice later for the trips you took if you travelled with GVB Flex).
To have your travel card be inspected by our special investigating officers to ensure the right to travel is valid.
If you travel without a valid travel card or you do not otherwise comply with the applicable travel conditions, GVB's special investigating officers can process your personal data to draw up an official report or to impose a fine on you. Which personal data is processed by GVB?
When checking in and out at our stops or stations or in our vehicles, transaction data is created which is read with the help of the chip ID in your public transport chip card. These data are processed in the public transport chip card system. When checking your travel card, a special investigating officer can inspect your travel history, date of birth, travel card data, and travel product details. To draw up an official report and impose a fine, the special investigating officer processes, among other things, your personal data. Basis for processing
The basis for processing your personal data as part of your travels with GVB is to implement the agreement concluded with you, namely the travel agreement and, if you have a GVB travel product, also the product agreement.
Period of retention
Transaction data arising from checking in and out is retained by GVB in the public transport chip card system for up to 18 months after you have completed your trip.
Who do we share the data with?
To check and ensure the correctness of (travel) transactions with your public transport chip card and for the financial settlement of the travel conducted by GVB and of any revenue sharing between transporters, as well as the proper national operation of the public transport chip card, Translink receives the transaction data arising from checking in and out.
