Why does GVB use your personal data?
Marketing purposes
GVB can use your personal details to:
to maintain the relationship with you, such as through (promotional) marketing campaigns or other campaigns.
to approach existing customers who have purchased a travel product from us with special offers in relation to similar GVB travel products.
When participating in our offers or campaigns, the personal data you provide will be used for the marketing campaign to manage and implement these offers and campaigns. You will always find further information concerning the use of your personal data for the offer or campaign in question in information provided with the offer or campaign. GVB may request permission to send you a one-off survey to evaluate the offer or campaign.
If, as an existing customer, you no longer wish to receive our marketing communications concerning similar travel products, please unsubscribe for this by clicking “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of the marketing communication, or unsubscribe quickly and easily at any time in your MyGVB account by changing your settings.
Service and news reports (Alerts and GVB newsletter)
If you wish, GVB will notify you of planned or unplanned travel information such as diversions, obstructions or planned work on your route (Alerts). You can also receive information about travelling with GVB, changes to the timetable or news about GVB. If you have subscribed for this, you will receive this travel information and these news reports by e-mail in the GVB newsletter, or via a push notification if you have subscribed for the message alert through the GVB app.
If you no longer wish to receive the GVB newsletter or message alert, please unsubscribe by clicking “Unsubscribe” at the bottom on the newsletter, and if you have a message alert, by deselecting the selected line numbers in the GVB app. It is also possible to unsubscribe quickly and easily for the GVB newsletter or message alert at any time in your MyGVB account by changing your settings. Once you have done so, you will no longer receive the GVB newsletter or message alert.
Service reports by other transport companies
To improve the personal service provided to travellers, when purchasing a GVB travel product you can state that you wish to receive service messages from other transport companies. GVB will pass on the e-mail address you provided to the transport company chosen by you. If you no longer wish to receive any service messages from that transport company, you can use the unsubscribe option in the service message sent by the transport company in question.
Which personal data is processed by GVB?
For offers or campaigns, you may provide personal data that is requested and necessary for carrying out and managing the offer or campaign in question. This is usually your contact details. If you take part in the evaluation of an offer or campaign, your answers will be included in the survey too. To approach our existing customers for similar travel products, we will use your e-mail address which we received from you when a travel product was purchased. We will ask you for your e-mail address in order to receive our newsletters or travel information. If you wish to use our Alerts, we will ask you to provide your favourite line number(s) for which you wish to receive an alert. Please provide these via your MyGVB account in order to receive messages by e-mail, or change your settings in the GVB app to receive push messages via the app.
If you wish to receive service messages from other transport companies too, you can subscribe for this and GVB will send your e-mail address to your preferred transport company or companies.
Basis for processing
Consent forms the basis for processing your personal data. You may subscribe to participate in offers, promotional offers and campaigns and indicate that you wish to receive surveys about it them you wish. You may also state that you wish to receive message alerts and receive the GVB newsletter or service messages from other transport companies. Your consent can easily be withdrawn again by unsubscribing.
In order to approach our existing customers with offers for similar travel products, the basis for the processing is justified interest. We have an interest in direct marketing in order to maintain a lasting relationship with our existing customers and to make them offers for new or alternative travel products that may apply to our customers. In addition, the breach of our customers' privacy is limited and our customers can unsubscribe to receive such marketing messages at any time via the unsubscribe link in each message.
Period of retention
To receive the GVB newsletter and message alert, GVB will retain your data that is necessary for this. If you have unsubscribed for this, the data will no longer be used for this purpose.
To participate in offers and campaigns, your personal data provided for this purpose will be retained for as long as is necessary to carry out the offer or campaign. Further information about this can be found in the information provided with the offer or campaign in question. If you participate in the evaluation of offers or campaigns, your answers to the survey will be retained for 12 months before being anonymised.
Who do we share the data with?
If you have notified GVB that you wish to receive service messages from other transport companies, GVB will share your e-mail address with the transport company or companies in question. This goes via Translink Systems B.V. (“Translink”), who acts as processor. Transport companies and Translink have reached agreements in this regard, including in relation to the use of data, security and the retention thereof.
The surveys for evaluation and offers or campaigns are processed and analysed by a third party by order of GVB. We will also share your personal data in certain cases with processors who process personal data by order of and on behalf of GVB. These processors are marketing agencies, cloud and hosting parties and IT service providers.
