Do you want to work in a street where the tram runs, or do you want to work around/near the metro track? Statutory safety rules apply around these local tracks. We are happy to explain how the application process works.
Process and conditions for application Local track environmental permit
Environmental Act
You must request for a local track environmental permit if you are going to perform maintenance work or place objects in the hazard zone around the local tracks. On the map with areas of influence by tram and metro you can see whether your work is in or near this zone. Are you going to work with cranes or scaffolding, or does your work affect the subsurface? In that case, the influence zone may be larger. In your request, clearly indicate the work you will do and how it will be done.
Not sure you need a permit? Just contact us at spoorvergunning@gvb.nl
Work plan for safe working
To request an Environmental act permit, you must submit a work plan for safe working near a local track along with the request form. In the work plan you describe the work you will perform and you translate the safety regulations. to your working method. Make it clear in your work plan how you will avoid endangering the operation of the tram or metro.
Safe working
You must follow the regulations for safe working. You can read them here.
Work on public roads
Take our public transport conditions into account when working in or on public roads where a bus and/or tram runs. These conditions can help when creating a BLVC plan, for example. In Dutch language only.
Apply for an Environmental act permit
You request a local track environmental permit by completing and submitting the application form (in Dutch). You will receive an e-mail confirmation of your request. In a second e-mail, you will be notified whether the request will be accepted for handling. Sometimes we first ask for additional documents or further explanation.
Recurring maintenance work
Do you conduct maintenance work that occurs on a regular basis, such as cleaning windows 4x per year, for 5 years? In that case, indicate that right away in your request. A permit can be issued for a long period of time and/or for a (large) number of repetitions of your work.
Good to know
Request your permit on time: issuing a permit for work near a local tram track usually takes only 2 to 4 weeks, but it takes 6 to 15 weeks to issue a permit for work near a metro track. In the case of complex projects, the turnaround time can be much longer than 15 weeks.
Extend or Change an Environmental permit
Extend a permit
Once issued, a permit is valid for the work period stated in the permit. If it is necessary to extend the validity of the permit, you can send a request to spoorvergunning@gvb.nl and include:
the number of the issued permit
confirmation that you will perform no other activities
confirmation that you will not use a different working method
the new desired end date
Change a permit
You cannot have your permit modified. In issuing the permit, we have assessed the indicated work. We must assess any changed work to be done in its entirety, which will lead to a new decision. If a minor administrative modification is needed, such as a change of address, just mail your request to change the name to spoorvergunning@gvb.nl
Costs of an Environmental permit
No costs are being charged yet. As soon as the date from which costs will be charged is known, we will let you know on this site.
Tram or metro temporarily out of service?
Major work is performed outside service hours as much as possible. However, sometimes it is necessary to bring transportation to a halt. Read more about what is important to know when requesting a temporary decommissioning (TGBN).
