Metro station travel rules

The following rules apply in the metro stations and on the platforms.

Do not smoke

Smoking is not permitted in the metro station or on our vehicles.

Valid proof of travel

Did you check in? You must have a valid travel pass on the platform and on the vehicl.

Metro gates

After checking in, only one person may pass through the gate. Children up to and including three years of age may go through together with a parent or adult supervisor.  

Noise pollution

Please do not disturb your fellow passengers with loud (phone) discussions or music.

Bicycle permitted

You may purchase a special ticket and take your bicycle on board, but not in the rush hours, 07:00 – 09:00 and 16:00 – 18:30. Your bicycle must not cause a nuisance to other passengers.  

There are no rush hours on Saturday, Sundays, and national holidays.
Op zaterdag, zondag en nationale feestdagen is er geen spits.

Eating and drinking is permitted

For your safety and that of other passengers, please use a lid on your (hot) drinks. Food with an unpleasant smell is not permitted. Please keep stations and vehicles clean.

No feet on the seats

No feet on the seats. This keeps the seats clean and available for your fellow passengers.

Strollers and wheelchairs

Please place your stroller or wheelchair in the designated spot. Fold your stroller up when there is no room available. Wheelchairs take precedence over strollers.

No alcohol or drugs

Alcohol and drugs may not be used in stations or vehicles.


Photography and filming are prohibited in the station. They are only permitted with the consent of GVB.

Video surveillance

Camera surveillance is active in stations and vehicles. GVB staff cannot acces the images.
