For more than a century GVB ferries have been connecting Amsterdam Central Station and the north of Amsterdam. This fast and safe waterborne public transport is an essential facility for pedestrians and cyclists.
Certain areas in de north of Amsterdam are developing quickly and the number of travellers continue to rise every year. The ferry services are therefore regularly enhanced. Both in the number of routes and their frequency.

The Houthavenveer, NDSM-werfveer, Buiksloterwegveer, IJpleinveer and the Distelwegveer are free of charge and carry foot passengers, bicycles and mopeds. These ferries are also wheelchair accessible. The Houthavenveer and the Distelwegveer operate with small ferries. The space on this ferries is limited. We advice users of a vehicle for invalids to use the bigger Buiksloterwegveer.
