Following rules are based on the Passenger Transport Act art. 70-73, the aim of which is to guarantee order, peace and safety. For your personal safety, you must always follow the instructions of GVB staff.

Valid ticket
You must have a valid ticket available for the whole of the journey you are making. Without a valid ticket you are liable to be fined.
No smoking
Smoking is prohibited in the vehicles and underground metro stations.
Bicycles allowed
Bicycles are allowed in the metro, IJtram 26 and on the ferries. Use in the metro the allocated area for your bicycle. The person in possession is liable for any damage caused to the bicycle.
Bicycles not allowed
Bicycles are not allowed in bus and tram, except in IJtram 26.
Skates and boards
The use of roller skates, skateboards and the like is prohibited, as this could seriously endanger both you and other passengers.
No feet on the seats
It is prohibited to place your feet on the seats.
Noise nuisance
Noise nuisance is prohibited. So is music in GVB vehicles and metro stations, unless GVB grants permission.
Food and drinks
The consumption of food and drinks that could cause nuisance or damage is prohibited in the vehicles.
Camera surveillance
Stations and a number of vehicles are fitted with camera and video surveillance. This has been registered at the Central Registry in compliance with the Privacy Protection Act.
Buggy/pram
In tram and bus buggies should be placed in the designated area. If there is no room, you have to fold up your buggy. Wheelchairs have priority over buggies at all times.
Any person who is observed to be violating the rules and who may receive or has received a notice of violation, may be subject to ejection from the public transport facilities.
